CBK International Banking Conference: "Shaping the Future" - Conference Proceedings & Recommendations

The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) has issued the whitepaper of the International Banking Conference “Shaping the Future”. The event was hosted in September 2019 under the kind patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah gathering 1,700 participants from over 26 countries, top-level banking sector speakers, banking experts, and representatives of international FinTech companies.

The whitepaper touched upon the main points addressed in the keynote delivered by His Excellency the Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait Dr. Mohammad Y. Al-Hashel, which covered the economic and social challenges facing the banking sector, risks and opportunities brought about by modern FinTech. In addition, it focused on the vision for developing the banking industry and supporting sustainable development at a time of swift changes and developments within the industry. It covered also the battles to keep abreast with technological advancements imposed by macroeconomic developments as well as changes in monetary policy and world markets.

The whitepaper also addressed the panel discussions that had provided a holistic view for the future of the banking industry with innovative ideas and deep insights. It also stressed the strategic recommendations and views of the participating policy-makers and leaders of the international financial services sector and experts in the banking, finance and FinTech sectors.

The FinTech exhibition, held on the sidelines of the conference, is also among the topics of the whitepaper, with over 40 exhibitors from the local and international banking sector as well as major telecom companies in the region and a number of financial services companies from the Gulf countries.
